General:

Maxine Hopkins Phillips, 90, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at her home at Village of the Heights.

Maxine was born on June 27, 1934, in Prineville, Louisiana, to TL and Edna Hopkins. She attended Louisiana Tech University, where she studied Home Economics. A woman of many talents, Maxine worked as a commercial property manager for many years. She was also a gifted cook and hostess, known for her love of entertaining large groups, and even enjoyed a short but memorable stint as a caterer with her neighbor. She loved shopping with her dear friend Catherine Salvaggio and had a closet full of shoes. Of course Maxine was an Astros fan and she was always up for a game of dominos.

Maxine was a devoted member of Second Baptist Church in Houston, where her faith and prayers inspired all who knew her. Her family and friends will remember her as a strong, creative, and faithful woman who made every gathering special.

Maxine was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, James Phillips. She is survived by her sister, Sadie Price, and husband Roger; her son, Stuart Phillips, and wife Cyndi; her daughter, Lisa Gentry, and husband Craig. She was the cherished grandmother of Dustin McCarver, Jarrod and Cindy McCarver, Chase and Katie Gentry, Hannah and Matt Bormann, and Brooke and Grant Lund. She was also "MeeMaw" to 12 great-grandchildren.

Her life was a testament to faith, love, and devotion, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 1101 Antoine, Houston, TX 77055. A private graveside service for the family will follow on Saturday.

The family of Maxine is grateful for the compassionate care from the staff at Village of The Heights and Pax Et Vita Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association in honor of Maxine's legacy.
