General:

Per 1920 census, Julian was living in DeValls Bluff with Horace Jewell Yates and family and working as a log cutter.

In 1930 he was married, living a couple doors down from Charlie Yates in Hazen. They apparently did a lot of logging together. One day when it w as really hot, Julian had a heat stroke and drank a large amount of ice wa ter. Moments later he went into a seizure. The other men thought he w as joking around at first, because he was a big cut-up. Then they realiz ed something was wrong, but they had no way to get him to a doctor on ti me before his heart stopped beating. He left a widow with three children.

They had three children between 1930 and 1938, when he died of a heat stroke while working for the WPA. Mary Yates Grigsby said the youngest son, who was born after Julian died, became a doctor and was practicing in Little Rock.
