General:

JC served as county judge for several years after moving to Madison Coun ty after Elizabeth died. Also farmed on about 200 acres during that tim e. In 1880 he was appointed postmaster at Fredericktown and held this pos ition fifteenyears under Republican rule, he being a Democrat. In Novemb er 1882, he was elected county treasurer of Madison County, and was re-ele cted in 1884. Mr. Berryman is a member of the Masonic fraternity, K. of H ., and his wife is a member of the Christian Church.
