General:

MONTICELLO - John Marvin "Woody" Woods, age 71 of Monticello went to be with his Lord Thursday, January 22, 2009. He was born October 29, 1937, in El Dorado, Ark., to the late John Lafayette Woods & Alva Dale Pledger Woods Yarbrough.
He retired in 1974 from the United States Navy and was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Monticello. He served his country with great pride and honor since December of 1954 during the Vietnam War. He served active duty aboard the ships; USS Lexington, USS Ticondoroga, USS Kitty Hawk & USS Independence. He was also a member of the Monticello Military Retiree's Association. His favorite hobby was playing pinochle with his family and friends in which he won the Virginia Beach Pinochle Tournament championship.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ora Mae Harvey Woods of Monticello; two sons, Michael Woods and wife, Jennie V. & Mark Woods and wife, Mariann all of Monticello; five brothers, Keith, Dale, Paul, Terry and Phillip Yarbrough all of Michigan; one grandson, John Woods; and two step grandsons, Phillip Reddin & Lee Bray.
Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ray Hearron, Rev. Buddy Lemons & Rev. Jimmy Albrecht officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Oakland Cemetery in Monticello by Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home. Family visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Second Baptist Church of Monticello, Arkansas Children's Hospital & St. Judes Hospital.
