James Robert Hester

   Cause of his death was prostate cancer.

Gr-dtr, Elsa Raye, remembers that Papa Hester had a smokehouse at the southwest corner of their house outside the kitchen door and was always smoking some kind of meat. She remembers that they always had lots of good bacon.

11/28/1956 Hamburg--James R Hester, 81, a retired farmer, died yesterday in a hospital in El Dorado. Mr Hester was a native of Ashley County and had lived at Fountain Hill since 1919. He was senior deacon in the Fountain Hill Baptist Church. In addition to his widow, he is survived by three sons, Alton, Little Rock; Norman, Crossett; and Roland, Fountain Hill; four daughters, Mrs Ray Phillips and Mrs Isaac Norrell, Fountain Hill; Mrs C B Hollis, Montrose, and Mrs Leon Binns, Crossett; his stepmother, Mrs Dora Hester, Monticello; four brothers, Ed, Ringold, La; John and E. B. Hester, Little Rock, and Ervin Hester, Malvern; four sisters, Mrs. Benson Barnett and Mrs Ernest Chandler, Crossett; Mrs Bill Pennington, in Oregon, and Mrs Odis Miller, Monticello; a stepsister, Mrs Lon Doss, Crossett; 26 grandchildren and 13 great-granchildren. Funeral services were conducted today in Fountain Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Clarence Allison, the Rev R L Smith and the Rev. E H Acuff, and burial was in Fountain HIll Cemetery in charge of Jones Funeral Service, Hamburn.

James married Magnolia Geddie, daughter of John E Geddie and Lula Williams, on 2 Feb 1902. (Magnolia Geddie was born on 3 Apr 1884 in Morehouse, LA, died on 6 Oct 1957 and was buried in Flat Creek Cemetery, Fountain Hill, Ashley, AR.). The cause of her death was complications from a broken hip.
